Hamdard Tea Company, Limited
Hamdard Tea Company Limited, the producing Company of the Group, was established in 1927 by the late Mr. Abdur Rasheed Choudhury, a pioneering entrepreneur of Sylhet, and some of his friends. The Company took a block of virgin lands in the district of Sylhet (District of Moulvibazar, a part of the Sylhet Division of Bangladesh, at present) on lease from the British Government shortly after its formation and started a Tea Estate, named DILKHUSHA TEA ESTATE, therein. The Company has purchased more lands from different private owners of the area at different times there after to extend its plantation. The Company's Tea Estate has a total area of over 1,100 acres of land at present out of which about 500 acres are under Tea, about 250 acres are under Bamboo, hardwood & Horticulture, about 100 acres under Rubber and about 50 acres under Pisciculture. The Company produces Black CTC Tea in its well-equipped factory in addition to Smoked Rubber Sheets and Fish worth over 30 million takas in total annually at present; the annual production and turnover are expected to double within the next few years.
Camellia Limited, the trading Company of the group, was established in the year 1972 by Mr. Farook Rasheed Choudhury and some of his family members. The Company started with local trading of Tea at Dhaka and has since expanded into warehousing, blending and exporting of Tea through its Chittagong establishment.
The two Companies work in close cooperation with one another and have established sound footings in the Tea Industry of Bangladesh. The group is very well-connected in the Tea world through the extensive family and business links of its directors & shareholders and have earned considerable market goodwill at home and abroad
